 Aviation Security

Class,

This discussion post will be about the emerging security threat of technology in the aviation industry. Terrorists can use a technology threat to challenge the Transportation Security Administration. The rising technology can also deter terrorists in aviation; The main problem is cybersecurity within this contactless world we live in due to COVID-19 (Karoly, 2021). The use of self-automation machines rose dramatically in 2020 and will continue to grow through our current year, 2021 (Karoly, 2021). These contactless machines give terrorists another means to locate and attack vulnerabilities (Karoly, 2021). If they could bypass these machines, they could access software systems, and TSA should be the only one to have access to these systems.

This threat of cybersecurity is scary, but it will not be a problem with excellent deterrence practices. The TSA implements policies, processes, and technologies to deter these problems (Karoly, 2021). The TSA needs to ensure these practices are being implemented around airports so that a cybersecurity threat does not happen (Karoly, 2021). To safeguard the rising danger of technology and make sure it stays at bay, the TSA has implemented an insider threat roadmap (Insider Threat Roadmap, 2020). This road map has three main priorities to deter terrorist activity (Insider Threat Roadmap, 2020). First, the road map wants to promote meaningful data-driven decisions by collecting the information of threats better and identifying these threats (Insider Threat Roadmap, 2020). Second, the road map wants to understand this information better and enhance threat detection from the inside (Insider Threat Roadmap, 2020). Thirdly, the TSA wants to team up with partners to create the best mitigation policies and strategies (Insider Threat Roadmap, 2020).

I think what the TSA is doing to deter terrorist-related activity is impressive, and they will continue to keep us safe when we are flying. We all hate going through airport security, but they make sure we get to our destinations safely.

There is a lot of good information within the road map to explain how the TSA will deter terrorists in the future (Insider Threat Roadmap, 2020). It is a good read; check it out.
