"Team-Based Human Factors Challenges"

Human factors have many roles in the aviation industry. Some are good, some are bad, but the human factor is applying a human to a product, how they work on the product, their abilities, and their limitations (About HFES, n.d.). The human factor leads to errors because, let us face it; we are all human. In aviation, the human factor leads to accidents accounting for 80% of all accidents, mainly when pilots come in for landings or takeoffs (Aviation Supplies & Academics. (2016). 


Team-related transactions that occur in aviation happen on all levels, from the top to the bottom of the totem pole. These transactions are essential for planes to leave the ground. When working on planes, there is typically more than one person per plane, so team transactions will have to happen. Workers all have their way that they work on planes. So one significant human factor related to working on the plane is the anti-authority workers (Aviation Supplies & Academics, 2016). These kinds of people will not listen to the leader of the job about roles and expectations of a job and can put the aircraft and everyone on the aircraft at risk (Aviation Supplies & Academics, 2016). These people are also the "it will not happen to me" kind of people and are in for a rude awakening if there are not going to listen to the rules (Aviation Supplies & Academics, 2016). There can even be the person in charge of a job telling people to work faster on a critical job causing the workers to mess up and apply human factors to a situation (Aviation Supplies & Academics, 2016).

The human factor in aviation is no joke. Maintainers have so many jobs that can cause a plane to come down if not completed correctly. Maintainers have to be almost robotic-like and double-check their work and other people's work to ensure everything is smooth sailing. In aviation, everyone learns how to work together relatively well and have each other's back. It is not something you will find in many places.
